We are so excited to begin our new year. There is nothing as thrilling as the first day of Kindergarten. Nervous feelings are a part of that excitement and I will do our best to provide a safe, secure environment for your child. We will spend the first couple of weeks learning our classroom routines. Once we have mastered our routines, we will begin our academic pursuits in earnest. I invite you to take our classroom tour (link found above) so you can see where your child is learning while at school. Also, check our our daily schedule. We try to stay quite close to this routine - a predictable routine creates a feeling of control for the child.

I had a wonderful time getting to know each of the Kindergarteners during our assessment time together. What wonderful children we have in our classroom. Thank you for sharing them with me for the coming year. Below is a link to see the pictures we took during out assessment week.

Friday, September 11 we will begin our specialties classes. Check our Kindergarten Schedule Link above to see when we will be going to the library, PE and music. Our music teacher is Mrs. Adams; our PE teacher is Mrs. Kao; and our librarian is Mrs. Durst. We will not be checking books out of the library for a couple of weeks. When we do, I will send them home in a special library bag that the children will use all year to transport their library books back and forth from school. They will bring their library book in their library bag every Friday.

I will be sending information home concerning this wonderful reading incentive program. We will make a couple of adaptations for Kindergarten. Your child will be asked to read/be read to for 15 minutes a day. Record this on the monthly reading chart and return the chart to school at the end of the month. For every 100 minutes your child reads, he/she will enter his/her name into a drawing for one of 4 bikes to be given away at the end of the year. Each time your child brings back a completed monthly reading chart he/she will receive a small incentive prize from Ken Garff (folder, pencil, etc.) and a coupon for a free personal pizza from Pizza Hut.
