Hola Canyon Crest!
We are happy to announce that a new Spanish Immersion program will begin at Canyon Crest next fall. I was notified on January 4th that our grant had been accepted. The program will start in first grade next August. We received one of ten grants given to schools across the state by the Utah State Office of Education, and we are thrilled to have been chosen.
Applications will be available on our web site. As a major world language, Spanish is spoken by a growing number of people in our community, state and nation. Wherever our students go, in or out of Utah, fluency in Spanish will open doors to them and give them greater access to the world. It will also help them become better citizens of the world. As speakers of Spanish, our students will be prepared to take their places in a global economy. More information will be coming in the next few months. Gracias
A portion of each vacation purchased is donated to benefit the children of our district. Simply mention Provo Education Foundation when booking. Get Away Today also provides in-kind donations for various fundraisers held by the foundation - again, benefitting the students of our district. Watch for pamphlets coming home in the next few days.
Parents now have access to this information on the Powerschool website. Click on the tab on the pull down menu below your student's picture at www.canyoncrest.provo.edu. To access your student page, enter their student number (please call the office - 801-221-9873 if you do not already have your child's student number) as the username - and their birthdate (example: 1/11/00) as their password.
Each summer for the past forty years Provo School District, in conjunction with Provo City Parks and Recreation, has sponsored an Outdoor Education (summer camp) Program. Students just finishing fifth grade are invited to participate. The registration fee is $100.00. It covers food, bus travel, craft supplies, T-Shirt, and all other expenses for the week. Please make the check to your school.
Due to limited space, registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. Registration forms will be sent home from Canyon Crest on Monday, March 29th. The registration fee and all registration forms are due on Friday, April 2nd at 9:00 a.m. to CANYON CREST'S main office. An orientation meeting for parents and students will be held on Tuesday, March 30th at 6:00 p.m. at Franklin Elementary School Auditorium, 350 South 700 West. Additional information can found at www.campbigsprings.com.

The security of our students, staff and school is imperative!
If you are a visitor at Canyon Crest, whether it be a parent, volunteer, etc., please make sure that you come to the office and check in before entering any part of the building. THERE SHOULD BE NO PARENT OR VISITOR WALKING THROUGHOUT OUR SCHOOL THAT IS NOT IDENTIFIED WITH EITHER A DISTRICT BADGE OR A VISITOR PASS! This helps to ensure the safety of our children and staff.
Thank You!

Fifth grade students participated in an old 17th century tradition of "Apple Howling" or Wassailing the Trees. They recited authentic poems as well as singing songs from that time to the trees in front of the school. They will culminate the activity by having a wassail party while they watch the video of their performance.
